Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam Her mother, who is an ex-backup singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father proposed her to take on the position of curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She along with her family moved to the historic mansion. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as a vocal music major. Sullivan began singing in the children's choir as a contralto later she joined the adult choir a few years further on. Sullivan had limited exposure to secular music. She relates that she was just 11 years old when a person asked her to sing solos at the church. However, she was not yet ready for. "Then when McDonald's offered a competition to kids in major cities and I was offered the chance to sing 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at thirteen. Sullivan was initially signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. She was signed to Jive Records when she was 15. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album. However, this album never saw release. Sullivan was later dropped from the label. They maintained a friendship with Missy Elliott she produced some of the songs for her debut project, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
